The current version of the Tor Browser Bundle no longer includes Vidalia. In theory, everything you need has been moved to the Torbutton browser add-on. I'm less than completely confident that is true, but it should work for most basic tasks.
But maybe we can help you figure a few things out....

The only way to be fully (or as fully as possible) protected and still using Flash etc, is to sandbox the whole OS by using something like Whonix. I would still consider this comparatively high-risk. but as long as you only want it for general privacy not because the government is out to get you or

I was mostly just thinking about the risk of having your money stolen.
Not saying xCoinMoney is a crook, of course. Just that you have no way of knowing they aren't. Nor do you have any way to verify their security is good enough that they won't themselves by robbed of the Bticoins they're keepi

Using an online wallet strikes me as a very bad idea. Maybe for pocket change or very briefly to facilitate an in-person trade or some such. But even then, I would avoid it as much as possible. How many of these things have we seen go under taking people's money with them?

That function is now in the Torbutton icon in the browser. Unfortunately it completely restarts the browser too. There's apparently no longer any simple way to just get a new IP address.

There's not much you can do about this. Almost all Tor exit nodes seem to have unusual traffic according to google. Sometimes they'll let you continue if you solve a CAPTCHA, but not always. Your best bet may be to just use a different search engine, Startpage and duckduckgo seem popular choices but

Eh, just look for tor.exe I guess. Or open that up with a hex editor and search for one of the strings inside it.

How do I set up a tor relay or a tor exit relay without vidalia?"onixflux"
You have to manually edit torrc and set the ORPort and ExitPolicy options.
Details here: https://www.torproject.org/docs/tor-manual.html.en
But I would advise against using the browser bundle for this purpose.

Most of that does sound like overkill. Torbrowser should already block Java, Flash etc, and I'm not aware of any particular danger from iframes. But unless you you have extra layers of protection, like Tails or Whonix, I do think it's a really good idea to use "Forbid scripts globally", wh

In a word, no. Of course you can manually run the IPs through a geolocation service and include (or exclude) them based on the results. But you can't just includenodes {Dallas, TX} or anything that simple.

You're right of course that someone has to be an exit, but take a look at the Tor Project's advice on the subject. It's not something you want to rush into. I actually did run an exit node at home in the earlier days on the Tor network and I never got any official complaints, legal trouble or anythi

Yes, if you can set up an email account through Tor without providing identifying information, and you only access it through Tor, you're safe.
Same story on the file thing, with one addition: You must also make sure the files themselves do not contain anything that could identify you. I guess t

That doesn't sound good. I believe it is as you suspect and this means Tor users are getting blocked by your filter, doubtless causing some annoyance. The directory relay thing shouldn't be a problem, but it might be better to just be a non-exit relay. If you're running this at home, being an exit r

Vidalia is now longer included in the browser bundles some of its features have been subsumed by TorButton, but not all. I'm not happy about this either. One option would be to click "View All Downloads" and then for the Vidalia Relay Bundle instead (and then turn of relaying, if you don't

1. The threads Danja linked too provide more detailed answers to this, but in short, there's no conflict, but you're not getting the best privacy using them "side-by-side". Ideally you would use one through the other. Whether you'd use Tor through the VPN or the VPN through Tor depends on

I believe the newest version of the Tor Browser Bundle do not use Vidalia, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are still some outdated references to it on the website. The Relay Bundle etc. are still based on Vidalia, but they don't include a browser.
Speaking of which I think it's important to

This should be broken up into silver gold and ultraviolet security levels or something. It's all theoretically good advice, but "Turn off Javascript" and "never use Tor at home" aren't on the same scale.

I believe search suggestions are turned off by default in Tor browser. If not, you can access the option to turn them off manually be clicking the down arrow in the search box and selecting Manage search engines.
