Coming back to your problem, other people experienced troubles with TOR 3.6.3 (e.g. some websites have some features blocked) and it is a problem of socks, I guess.
Have you the same troubles with TOR 3.6.2 ?

Ubuntu 14.04 is set for open shell scripts automatically with gedit or another editor.
